As I've posted before, I love the Discovery Channel's show, Mythbusters. If you aren't familiar with it, it's basically a show that scientifically debunks urban myths.
Sometime in April 2007, the Mythbuster crew shot an episode that deals with ninja myths that you often see in movies. As an added bit of fun, they invited the Ask a Ninja ninja to show up and give his two cents worth.
What is "Ask a Ninja"? It's a cult-hit comedy video podcast that features a Ninja that will answer any question under the sun, no matter how mundane or strange. And chances are, the ninja's answers are just as strange, if not more so.
Another brilliant video from the cast of Saturday Night Live.
In this clip, Adam Samberg and guest host Justin Timberlake pay homage to the R&B love song genre. They come up with a song about the perfect gift for Christmas. But as they claim in their video, this gift is perfect for any occasion, the whole year round. :)
Jj sent this incredibly disturbing yet compelling video over the weekend, and I must share it with the world!
Some Pinoy dude posted a video project he made for college in 1999. It's a commercial for "Jonel's Brief" (or brip, if you prefer). A wonderful mix of 80's music, male dancing, and underwear...
Fair warning: the images, music and lyrics may be stuck in your head for quite a while!
Apparently, NBA superstar Tim Hardaway made a very homophobic remark to the press recently. In response, George Takei (most famous for his role as Mr. Sulu on Star Trek) -- who announced a couple of years ago that he's gay -- made a response just for Mr. Hardaway.
Here's to Mr. Takei for his incredible sense of humor. :)
An oldie but goodie from the Internet. If you've ever been curious about what happens in the Men's Room, look no further. Nothing but cooperation, understanding, and camaraderie.
The hosts and crew of British car show "Top Gear" have a field trip through the state of Alabama. They decide to makes things more exciting by painting colorful slogans on their cars that would surely entice a reaction from the locals.
The result: further proof that there are still rednecks that are really rednecky.
Microsoft recently released the latest version of its Windows operating system, Windows Vista. Loaded with new security functions, one of Vista's features is that a security check is made whenever a program is installed or does something that needs Internet access. Vista will ask you if you will allow the process or not.
Of course, this feature makes ripe pickings for Apple to release a new commercial as part of its "Get a Mac" campaign. :)
As I mentioned in my Christmas post, I'm a fan of the comedy "Scrubs". If you haven't seen it yet, it basically follows the lives of a bunch of young doctors and nurses through the eyes of the main protagonist, Dr. John "J.D." Dorian (played by Zach Braff).
Scrubs is one of those under-appreciated comedies that has a steady following that has kept it alive and well over the past 6 seasons. If you like the style of humor of "The Simpsons" or "Arrested Development", you'll like Scrubs. And just like those shows, Scrubs isn't afraid to experiment, coming up with wackier ways to push the comedy envelope.
A perfect example is the latest episode called "My Musical". In it, a patient checks in with a strange ailment -- she hears music and singing from everyone, including herself! With this premise, the creatives at Scrubs partnered with the Tony Award-winning creators of Avenue Q to come up with the music and lyrics to this episode.
This excerpt focuses on the strong bond between best friends J.D. and Turk. Since all musicals have a love song in it, it's just so Scrubs to make that song between two dudes...
The Nintendo Wii has been out for almost a couple of months, and it's an early success for Nintendo. The Wii was a best-seller during the Christmas season, had a lot of positive stories from the mainstream media, and just general good word-of-mouth. So it's no surprise that the Wii would be a subject for the many fan-made videos on the Internet...
Yesterday saw the release of a funny (and a bit racy) video that explores the intersection between video gaming and the mating ritual...
The classic Charlie Brown Christmas is given a twist when it is edited and voiced by the cast of the comedy "Scrubs". (Which is a great show, by the way...)
Full of one-liners, zingers, and some off-color humor, this was never aired on network television, but most likely shown internally as a gift to the cast and crew of Scrubs. Luckily, someone decided to leak this out to the public. :)
I'm not a beer expert, but I can appreciate the humor in beer commercials. The great thing about this one is that it really is a poster boy for truth in advertising! No weird jokes about frogs or guys saying "Waaaaazuuuuup!" Enjoy! :)
I love the web and all the weird things people do when they're bored. A group of guys cruisin' for McDonald's decide to spice up the drive through experience by ordering hip-hop style.
The lyrics...
I need a double cheeseburger and hold the lettuce Don't be frontin' son no seeds on a bun We be up in this drive thru Order for two I gots a craving for a number nine like my shoe We need some chicken up in here In this dizzle For rizzle my nizzle Extra salt on the frizzle Dr. Pepper my brother Another for your mother Double double super size And don't forget the FRIES...
Imagine someone doing this in a local McDonald's branch...
This is originally a deleted scene from Family Guy, taken from the DVD set. Patrick Stewart in this video reprises his voice as Picard and Martina Sirtis as Troi.
Undoubtedly came out on cable tv. Undoubtedly from New Jersey.
A costume store from New Jersey released a commercial in time for Halloween. They specialize in Girls' costumes.
A hilarious video because it's obviously cheap, probably homemade, and it's like watching Tony Soprano hock sweatshop-made items, complete with a Bada-bing girl helping him out.
"Improv Everywhere" is a group that specializes in pulling off pranks on a somewhat massive scale. The heads plan out the prank, ask for volunteers from the general public (fans travel from other states to be in on the joke), and video tape the entire thing.
Inspired by several Star Trek episodes on time travel, they decide to produce their own "temporal anomalies". The victim/venue: a local branch of Home Depot.
Gathering over 200 volunteers, they troop off to Home Depot. The first part of their prank is to appear to shop normally, then at a predetermined time, everyone proceeds to move in slow motion for 5 minutes, then return back to normal speed. The second part of their prank is for everyone to freeze in place for 5 minutes, then return back to normal speed, and discreetly leave the store.
It took some time for the Home Depot employees and innocent shoppers to notice that anything was amiss, and when they do, they're just stumped, not knowing what to do.
[Updated 08/25/2006] Another video clip added below.
The summer in the US is coming down to a close. Hence, the dearth of good movies that have been released the past few weeks in Manila. (In case your wondering, as of this writing, the only movies worth watching are "Click" [highly recommended] and "My Super Ex-Girlfriend" [but only if you're in a mababaw mood].)
So thank God for the Internet, and for the popularity of YouTube!
Enjoy a clip from the Stephen Colbert Report that shows his geek roots. A week or so ago, he did a bit in front of a green screen, doing a mock lightsaber fight. He then asked viewers to do their creative best with it. The results below...
And here's a Daily Show bit on the newly released "Snakes on a Plane". I have to give this movie credit for milking the most out of the media. The studio knows it has an incredibly weak premise, but their ace-in-the-hole is the leading man, Samuel L. Jackson! So SLJ has been doing the talk show route, promoting the hell out of it. His best appearances are on the Daily Show because he gets to curse as much as he wants, and just have fun! Enjoy the clip!
A little disclaimer: I'm a PC user -- I've never owned a Mac, and could never justify getting one (even a Mac-mini) just to play around with. That being said, I'll admit that Apple makes some of the best advertisements in the computer industry. Apple's latest "Get A Mac" campaign is one of their wittiest, spawning may spoof ads on the Internet.
Both console video game machines are scheduled to come out in the last quarter of 2006. Based on the available facts, hype and buzz, the gaming community is torn between what machine to purchase. Here are the arguments for each machine, in a nutshell:
Sony Playstation 3 PROS: arguably the most powerful machine, will have a blu-ray drive (to high definition movies or games), very strong brand image, great 3rd party game support CONS: most expensive console ($499 basic version, $599 premium version that most gamers will want), blu-ray still unproven (and one of the reasons the PS3 costs so much), games mainly target males from teens to mid-20s, very expensive to produce games for
Nintendo Wii PROS: most affordable machine (no more than $250), very family friendly image, great 1st party games, targets wider audience to expand the video game market, relatively cheap to produce games for CONS: the least powerful among the latest generation of machines, no plans for high definition content, been at 3rd place in video game industry for 2 generations
With these points in mind, see the video below as it explains it in another way...
